GENERAL SECTION
Second Round of Clean Ohio Funding
INTRODUCTION
This summer the Clean Ohio Fund will award the initial round of funding to revitalize neighborhoods by cleaning up and redeveloping impaired properties, preserving green space and farmland, and improving outdoor recreation opportunities. The second round of funding will commence this fall and winter.
FUNDING PROGRAMS
There are four competitive funding programs, each designed to carry out one of the original objectives of the Clean Ohio Fund:
- The Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund supports the cleanup of polluted properties so that they can be restored to productive uses.
- The Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Program helps to fund preservation of open spaces, sensitive ecological areas, and stream corridors.
- The Clean Ohio Agricultural Easement Purchase Program supports the permanent preservation of Ohios most valuable farmland through the purchase of development rights.
- The Clean Ohio Trails Fund works to improve outdoor recreational opportunities for Ohioans by funding trails for outdoor pursuits of all kinds.
During this first round of funding, projects already past the conceptual stage may have had a head start on some others and were able to reach the application deadline with a thorough document. The projects are judged by regional and state-wide review committees on the projects technical merits, societal values, and support from other funding partners. Considerable lead time, usually at least three months, is necessary to gather the information needed for a quality application.
SUMMARY
This spring, the Payne Firm worked closely with local governmental organizations in preparing several applications for Green Space Conservation Funds and Revitalization Funds. Now is time to formulate your groups Revitalization, Green Space, Agricultural or Trail concept into a Clean Ohio Fund application for next funding cycling this fall.
